Story Orgy Monday...There Were Signs, cont'd pt. 9

Happy Story Orgy Monday!

OMG I actually have a post today...LMAO. But seriously, sorry for the delay, I'd love to have a spectacular reason but the truth is I suck (on a side note, some guys would actually say spectacularly *winks* so does that count? lmao)

I wanted the post to be a little longer (who doesn't *eye roll*) but I didn't want to make you wait any more time considering a very handsome Hank *hip bumps* reminded me I was keeping a person or two hanging on not just one story, but two now...I'm going I'm going...*hugs*

So here's to a good Monday for everyone! <3

This week's prompt:  He was stunned...

And now for your reading pleasure…

There Were Signs
pt. 9 (cont'd from 2012)

Would he hang around for Wolfe's wolf? What a strange fucking request for his best friend to ask him. What a strange fucking request for him to be contemplating. Of course he wouldn't hang around for his best friend to change into a wolf and prowl the woods behind his duplex for the entirety of the night. Why would he do that when there was a perfectly good party to go to on the other side of town...in a heavily populated area...with lots of street lights and loud music to deter any wild creature from venturing close...especially wild creatures that may or may not have a hard-on for him.
So of course he was now wandering around in those same woods behind Wolfe's duplex at the moment trying to talk himself out of waiting for his best friend to turn into a man hungry wolf.
Oy...his head hurt.
A rustling in the trees froze Dorian in his tracks. He glanced up and finally took notice as to how far in the woods he'd strolled. Looking around, he couldn't even see Wolfe's house anymore. Well fuck. He'd stuck to the hiking trail that they always took to the hidden away lake—great fishing in the winter and swimming in the summer—but instead of hanging a left at the two trees that looked like they were humping he'd veered to the right and continued on the trail. Sure the trail slowly dwindled down to a barely used path and now...well shit now he was lost and something was quickly making its way straight to him.
A part of his mind told him to calm down, it was Wolfe coming to give him hell for getting lost in the woods so close to dark. Another part of him screamed "Werewolves do exist." If they exist what other things that liked to bump during the night might possibly be out there. The final part of him just wanted him to run and never stop.
Before he could make good on his mind's third idea two golden eyes appeared. As they came closer Dor was able to make out a light grey tuft of fur until finally standing in front of him was a massive grey wolf—no, it was too big for a regular wolf, this was definitely a werewolf.
"Fuck me, you're not Wolfe."
The creature in front of him cocked his head to the side, staring at him like his hair was blue or something. How screwed was it that the first thought to pop into his head was damn, what a picture that would make. Of course the second thought of survival prevailed.
"Um..." Dor took a step back and bit back a curse when the wolf took a step forward. "So, are you at least friends with Wolfe?"
The wolf lowered his head and growled menacingly at Dorian.
"Oh shit. That doesn't seem like a positive response."
A deeper more intimidating growl overpowered the wolf's, causing him to whimper and crouch low to the ground.
"Oh shit. That seems even worse," Dorian whispered to himself.
"I was wondering when he'd let you in on his little secret. The fool always spoke about how you could be trusted."
Even though there was still a good hour or so of sunlight, it didn't appear able to break through the canopy of trees here. The result was Dorian squinting, trying to peer into the darkness in front of him. He knew that voice, but damn if he could place it at this moment when his heart was in his throat and he couldn't breathe around it.
"So, do you talk to any wolf now? One of us let you live so you think all of us are as benevolent?"
Dorian jumped. The voice wasn't in front of him anymore, but to his left somewhere.
"Who's there?" His bravado that Wolfe bragged about earlier completely leaving him. Sure, he had no problem mouthing off to his best friend, they'd been buddies since seventh grade, there really was minimal fear when it came to Wolfe.
But this wolf crouched on its belly in front of him, looking like his hind legs were springs readying him to pounce at the word...this mystery voice that could evidently astral project from one spot to another...
Dear god he was screwed.
"You want to know me? Say please." The voice whispered through the trees.
Huh? Was this thing fucking with him? Didn't his mama teach him not to play with his food?
Dor fought off the urge to drop to the fetal position and play dead. He was almost positive—not quite but almost—that wouldn't work in this situation. Didn't they have to be bear shifters for the whole playing dead scenario to work? Holy shit, where there such things as bear shifters?
"Are you a werewolf or a shifter?" He was stunned when his thoughts escaped his mouth, he definitely deserved to be in the too stupid to live column.
"Are you an appetizer or a main course?"
Okay, time to stop the volley of questions on that note.
"Um...look"—he stepped backwards slowly...the wolf in front of him popped his head up and bared his teeth...very slowly—"I really didn't mean to insult you or anything. If you knew me you'd know I have a big mouth and itty bitty brain."
"I do know you."
The ominous voice was now behind him. Very close behind him—afraid he might shit his pants close behind him. He shut his eyes and reached back with his hand and sure enough, something solid met his questing fingers.

My TBR pile: Murder on the Mountain @jamiefessenden1 #mustread #TBRpile

Here's another book that I've added to my TBR pile...and wasn't I lucky enough to get to interview the author—which makes me wish fervently for an opening in my schedule so I can read it even faster! *looks at list of things to do and wonders what I can knock down a few notches* lol

So please let me introduce you to Jamie Fessenden and his book Murder on the Mountain...

Describe your style of writing in five words or less.
Lean, transparent, easy to read.

You have a new release out—Murder on the Mountain...I'm gonna share the blurb in a few...but tell us about it in your own words.
I’ve always enjoyed the “cozy” type of murder mystery like those of Agatha Christie—an amateur detective, a murder, a clearly-defined group of suspects, and an interesting puzzle.  Murder on the Mountain is my attempt at a cozy.  While I did research how the NH State Police conduct murder investigations, police procedure isn’t the emphasis of the story.  It’s the puzzle.  Of course, there is also a budding romance between Kyle and Jesse.

When did the idea for this story come to you?
I’ve been wanting to do a story like this for decades, ever since I was a teenager.  I plotted some out, but didn’t have the skill to write them back then.  After I was published, I made an attempt with my novel Murderous Requiem.  I’m fond of that novel, but it has one fatal flaw as a murder mystery—the murder occurs “off-screen” and nobody is trying to solve it.  There are other mysterious things that take up the main character’s attention, but it isn’t a “murder mystery” in any real sense.  Murder on the Mountain is a classic who-dunnit, inspired by my experiences as a child when my father worked on the summit of Mount Washington.  It’s a beautiful place, but the extremes of temperature and weather make it treacherous for inexperienced hikers.

Is this a solo story or could this turn into maybe a series? Do you see Kyle and Jesse getting into mischief in the future for us?
It was always intended to be a series of mysteries featuring Kyle and Jesse as the sleuths.  I’ve already begun plotting the next one.

What is your favorite genre to write in?
There isn’t really just one.  I love mysteries, but I also love science fiction, historical (especially the Viking Era), high fantasy, psychological drama, and even holiday stories.

What shocking taboo subject would you love to try and conquer in the future?
I’ve already begun writing a contemporary story (Violated) about a man whose life is destroyed when he’s raped by a good friend.  I don’t intend to pull my punches, and this one may be a rough read.  But I’m hoping I can “go there” without falling into the trap of writing a fictionalized PSA.

What are you working on now?
I have a deadline for an anthology (Gothika #3) coming up.  That’s a werewolf story (Isolation).  I’m also writing a YA science fiction novel about two Martian colonies forced to work together to survive, despite political conflicts back on Earth (Martian Born), and the contemporary novel I mentioned (Violated).  I’m in the planning stages of Kyle and Jesse’s next mystery, and F.E. Feeley, Jr. and I are about halfway through a novel about a haunted inn in Vermont (Borderland).

Add this intriguing read to your TBR also:
Blurbage:

When Jesse Morales, a recent college grad who aspires to be a mystery writer, volunteers to work on the summit of Mt. Washington for a week, he expects to work hard. What he doesn’t expect is to find a corpse in the fog, lying among the rocks, his head crushed. The dead man turns out to be a young tourist named Stuart Warren, who strayed from his friends while visiting the mountain.

Kyle Dubois, a widowed state police detective, is called to the scene in the middle of the night, along with his partner, Wesley Roberts. Kyle and Jesse are instantly drawn to one another, except Jesse’s fascination with murder mysteries makes it difficult for Kyle to take the young man seriously. But Jesse finds a way to make himself invaluable to the detective by checking into the hotel where the victim's friends and family are staying and infiltrating their circle. Soon, he is learning things that could very well solve the case—or get him killed.

Must Reads: Say Something @PridePromo @batortuga #mustread #bookcontest

About BA Tortuga: Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy's Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds, getting tattooed, texting her sisters, and eating Mexican food. When she's not doing that, she's writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing porn sites in the name of research. BA's personal saviors include her wife (still amazing to say that), Julia Talbot, her best friend, Sean Michael, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which was raised in Northeast Texas, but has gone to the high desert mountains and fallen in love. With books ranging from hard-hitting GLBT romance, to fiery menages, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.

Say Something
Cover Artist: Angsty G

We've got blurbage: Jenson has loved Mike his whole life, but he has never known how to tell Mike how he feels. After high school Mike leaves for college and his Hollywood dream, while cowboy Jenson stays behind in their small East Texas hometown. Neither man knows what to say to go beyond friendship, even though they come together through all of the best and worst times of their lives. The most amazing moments keep bringing them back together, but through huge love and terrible loss, sickness and health, their timing never seems right to take their relationship to the next level. When the universe gives them one final chance, Jenson must overcome his fear and say the most important something before it's too late.

And a sneak peek:
“So, this guy, he’s the one?” Ricky leaned over the edge of the bed, head dangling down.

“That kills brain cells, man.” Mike looked at himself in the mirror, working the thick pancake makeup to make the scar less noticeable.

“Uh-huh. So does green, and we smoke that. The scar is hot, honey. Leave it alone.”

Mike grunted. “He’s only ever seen it with stitches.”

“He’s, like, a real cowboy?”

“Uh-huh. We’ve been together forever. I just… I can’t believe he’s coming.” Really coming, here. Jenson. Finally. Mike touched up his eyeliner, and looked at himself again. Maybe glasses….

“You’re such a big queen.” Ricky laughed, waving at him upside down.

“You’re just jealous that I’m not your big queen.”

“Nah. You’re too toppy.” Ricky cackled, and Mike had to laugh. Everyone knew Rick would bottom up for anyone.

“Oh yeah. I’m a big bad leather daddy.” He turned and flexed, playing happily. Ricky was going to be a model. Hell, the guy was already working. Him, though, he still wanted to act.

He thought he could. His profs said he had talent. He just had his damned face to overcome.

The phone rang, and he spun around. “Oh God. Do you think it’s him?”

Must Reads: Damian’s Discipline @PridePromo @IslandTalesPres @ParkerWAuthor #mustread #bookcontest

About K.C. Wells: Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C. Wells always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way.

K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, where the purchase of a m̩nage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings Рwriting about men in love was even hotter...

K.C. now writes full-time and is loving every minute of her new career.

The laptop still has no idea of what hit it... it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.

About Parker Williams: Parker Williams began to write as a teen, but never showed his work to anyone. As he grew older, he drifted away from writing, but his love of the written word moved him to reading. A chance encounter with an author changed the course of his life as she encouraged him to never give up on a dream. With the help of some amazing friends, he rediscovered the joy of writing, thanks to a community of writers who have become his family.

Parker firmly believes in love, but is also of the opinion that anything worth having requires work and sacrifice (plus a little hurt and angst, too). The course of love is never a smooth one, and Happily Ever After always has a price tag.

And a sneak peek:
I LOVED it when it was evening and all was quiet and peaceful. No traffic noise intruded into the house, and in the lounge, the only sound was the slow ticking of the clock on the mantelpiece. Give me a mechanical clock any day. Not that I had anything against more modern timepieces, but there was something soothing about the sound. The clock had been my grandmother’s, and I took loving care of it, making sure it was oiled and wound. Right then my evening was perfect: the tick of the clock, a glass of Cabernet on the table next to me, and a worn, hardcover Sherlock Holmes novel in my hands. I’d lost count of how many times I’d read The Hound of the Baskervilles, but re-reading a favorite book was a warm, comforting experience. The wine created a warm glow inside me. I took another sip.

And then my phone rang.

The temptation to ignore its clamoring call was huge. I was happy, comfortable, and anyone ringing me at home during the evening had to want something. All my friends knew my routines, especially since Oliver....

I closed my eyes. I could almost hear that edge of amusement in his voice. “You going to answer that, Sir?” And yes, I could see the gleam in his eye as he awaited my reaction, tense in nervous anticipation. Brat loved pushing my buttons. With a sigh, I picked up the call.

“Damian? It’s Leo. We need your help.”

I placed the wine on the table. “What can I do for you?” My interest was piqued immediately. It had been quite a while since the co-owner of my BDSM club had called me at home.

“Sorry to disturb you, but you were the first person I could think of. We have a boy. He’s nineteen, and he needs help.”

Ohhhh...and an exclusive excerpt!
“You okay in there?”

Damian’s unexpected knock and his voice made me jump.

“I’m fine.” I listened as his footsteps receded. Unable to lie there any longer, I climbed out of the bath and toweled myself dry. Damian was moving around downstairs. I slipped into the soft red robe and snuggled it around my body.

He’s being so good to me, and yet I have to stab him in the back by stealing from him. In spite of my bath, I felt lousy, unclean.

I opened the bathroom door as quietly as I could and stepped out onto the landing. To my right was the room where I’d slept the night before. To the left had to be Damian’s room, the door ajar. I peered inside at the wide bed with matching oak bedside tables. The room had a warm, homely feel. It was clear which side Damian slept on. To one side there was a photo frame, containing a picture of the same young man I’d already seen. What drew my interest was the frame. It looked like it was made of silver.

That might fetch enough at a pawnshop.

At that moment I loathed myself.
